What is Pilates?

The Pilates method was originally developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates in order to rehabilitate injured soldiers. His belief was that the mind and body must work together to achieve optimal health, and his system of exercises emphasized a number of principles (proper alignment, concentration, core strength, control, precision, breathing and efficient flowing movement) in order to achieve that end.

Historically, the benefits of this highly intelligent system of exercises was primarily recognized by dancers and athletes seeking to optimize performance. Grounded in over 80 years of proven results, the Pilates of today has expanded its scope to align with current exercise science. Clinical Pilates is suitable and beneficial for people of all ages and exercise levels: from elite athletes looking to hone their abilities, to seniors with osteoarthritis wanting an effective and safe workout, to those wishing to rebuild strength and unwind imbalances after injury. Wherever you are in your body, we welcome you to come explore the benefits clinical Pilates has to offer you!!
